The share market is a platform where investors buy and sell company shares, with prices set by demand and supply, allowing companies to raise capital and investors to grow their wealth. In simple words, when a company needs money to grow, it can sell shares to the public. If you buy a share, you become a part-owner of that company. If the company does well, the value of your share usually goes up, and you may also receive a part of the profits as a dividend. If the company does poorly, the value can fall.

How it works:

  • Companies list their shares on an exchange. In India, the main ones are the NSE (National Stock Exchange) and the BSE (Bombay Stock Exchange).
